By directly employing qualified technical staff to manage and supervise all construction, residential and soil remediation projects undertaken, together with the majority of on-site trade operatives, we have the advantage of complete control over quality of workmanship, meeting performance targets and managing costs to ensure client satisfaction.
All our employees hold, or are in the process of obtaining, the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (C.S.C.S.) card and continued professional development of all staff is actively encouraged within O'Keefe with many of our staff working towards NVQ level 3 or higher in their specialist area.
We also run a very successful apprenticeship scheme. In fact, we are very proud of one of our ex-apprentices in particular:
Stephen Davies joined O’Keefe in 2005 as an apprentice Ground Worker and, with our support, has recently achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying from London Southbank University. Here’s what Stephen has to say in his own words:
“I joined O’Keefe in 2005 as an apprentice Ground Worker and was enrolled to attend a 6 month intensive construction course at the CITB Bircham Newton training facility. Following completion of the course, I commenced working on site as part of a multi-skilled gang undertaking works ranging from operating site plant, breaking piles, concreting works, installation and fixing of reinforcement mesh, amongst others.
A year later, I was working within the side-arm of the business as a team member of a soil-stabilisation gang where I gained experience operating excavators and various other plant. Although I enjoyed working on site, it became apparent that this was not my long-term ambition and the company noticed that I was not fulfilling my potential.
Following this recognition, I was brought into the Head Office and fell straight into place working within the Estimating Department. I was soon enrolled on a Higher National Certificate (HNC) course for construction and 2 years later I completed the HNC course with a Distinction. With this top grade, O’Keefe realised it would be in their interest to encourage me to continue with my education, and decided to invest further in this by sponsoring me for an additional 3 years in order for me to gain a degree, an offer which I gladly accepted. I have just completed my final year and was notified recently that I have achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying from London Southbank University.
I am now a valued and successful member of our Estimating Team, working on projects ranging from small £1m projects such as 18 Tregunter Road, which we have just completed, to large value projects worth in excess of £20m in value to O’Keefe.”
